10 Tips for Season Long Success of your Hanging Baskets & Containers

  1. Water thoroughly every day in the hot summer until water runs out the bottom of the basket. If your basket dries out completely, take it down and soak it. Always water with a soft water head.

  2. Fertilize every 7 - 10 days with a balanced fertilizer in the early season. As the season progresses, fertilize with a flower booster to promote flowers.

  3. Don't fertilize a dry basket; there is a possibility of burning the roots. Always water first.

  4. Keep your basket clean - remove all dead flowers, discoloured leaves, broken branches etc. A heavy pinching in late summer can help rejuvenate your basket.

  5. If your basket becomes infected with insects or disease treat it sooner than later, or remove the infected portion of the plant.

  6. Choose appropriate baskets for your location (i.e. mini ivy geraniums for heat or impatients for shade). Use chains or long hooks to lower your baskets so they are easier to maintain and more eye appealing.

  7. Choose a young basket with sturdy, healthy plants and lots of young flower buds for longer performance.

  8. Drip watering systems work wonderful if you have more than a few baskets. It saves time and gives constant watering.

  9. Generally larger baskets with more soil will have a better chance of performing well into the fall.
